JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Title: Plant Manager
Position Report To: General Manager or Operations Manager
Primary job responsibilities and duties include but are not limited to the following:
- Responsible for managing all aspects of production department for the processing plant.
- Responsible for maintaining satisfactory quality, labor cost, merchandise costs and staffing.
- Overall responsibilities include managing production flow, employee standards, safety, image and house keeping.
- Responsible for maintaining tight budget control on direct labor cost and in-direct labor cost. Responsible for supervising a staff consisting of x to x direct reports and x to x indirect reports. There is a total staff responsibility of employees under the Plant Manager.
Specific duties include:
- Communicates with department managers at the plant to resolve customer or branch operational issues, maintaining close coordination and teamwork attitude regarding production objective and plant processing problems.
- Proactively manages changes in work flow or product mix based on new business changing business requirements.
- Provides team leadership, mentoring, guidance, coaching and development. Leads personnel and supervisors on the floor.
- Utilizes the Commitment to Service Best Staffing Process in assisting in the recruiting, selecting, training, development and supervision of floor supervisors and staff. Continuously develops new areas of recruitment. Builds a solid bench of future employment candidates. Takes ownership in coaching to improve performance and holds employees accountable for meeting all production and quality standards established for the plant.
- Works on production floor to conduct analysis, of employee performance and evaluations for all subordinate staff providing specific and detailed feedback on their skills and the attainment of their personal goals and objectives.
- Maintains compliance with all federal, state and local laws and regulations that affect branch operations.
- Ensures the safe operation of all machinery, conducts safety meetings and schedules maintenance and repair.
Supplementary responsibilities:
- Manages all production department activities within the assigned plant in accordance with Company guidelines. Responsibilities will be focused on recruiting, hiring, training, leading, developing and managing an Assistant Plant Manager and Floor Supervisors
- Ensures that all reporting requirements for the region as established by the Company are followed and submitted on a timely basis.
- Implements highly effective techniques, practices, methods and systems that increase image, reach and exposure for the Company. Achieves production goals, team building, retention objectives, and overall plant performance management targets.
- Ensures that all efforts in the plant's production department help fuel sustainable competitive advantage and growth for the Company.
- Maintains strong and effective relationships with all stakeholders, existing customers, internal departments, external service providers, vendor supply chain partners, and local community groups.
- Leads regularly scheduled management meetings to review results to goal, production cost trends, customer visitation results and new account installation information for all sales within the plant.
- Helps properly support the transition process on installation of new accounts to the customer service department and plant operations teams by ensuring that new accounts are properly set up with in production.
- Understands that speed and action, efficiency of transaction, and swiftness of decision-making is essential to success.
- Maintains high business standards that help position the Company to build a preeminent position in its target markets.
- Acts as a responsible and innovative catalyst for change. Role models and reinforces corporate values on a consistent and constant basis.
- Assists to ensure that the Company, adheres to all laws and regulations that govern its business operations, that a safe a pleasant work environment is maintained, and that the Company stands as a good corporate citizen in the communities in which it does business.
- Acts with the highest level of integrity and honesty at all times and when in conflict, hold the customer's interests above all others.
Breakdown of time will be:
Plant Floor Management; Coaching, Training, Employee Development: (75%)
- Oversees daily floor actives by "swimming" the floor by the hour.
- Directs workflow by using industry standards to plan work down stream.
- Collects and manages production results from employees to help improve efficiencies and adherence to standards.
- Rotates employees to different workstations as workflow changes and to cross-train employees.
- Reviews the quality of ALL products leaving the plant to insures that the customer is receiving the highest quality available.
Human Resources: (10%)
- Utilizes the Best Staffing Process and assists in recruiting and hiring capable supervisors, lead personnel and staff employees. Maintains qualified personnel in all job categories.
- Ensures that only qualified candidates are forwarded up the ladder for consideration.
Reporting and Analyzing; Administration: (15%)
- Adheres to the Performance Management Process by holding monthly Team Checkpoint meetings with staff and annual one-on-one Checkpoint meetings to review individual performance and implement Employee Development Plans when necessary.
- Attends and participates in monthly Team Checkpoint meeting prepared with individual Performance Agreement, supporting data and action plan to attain 100% score. Supports all team members in achieving 100% score.
- Holds management meetings every day at the start and end of the shift.
- Administers and manages all reports, reviews them for completeness and takes actions were required.
- Works within assigned service budget, assists in preparation of the annual budget for the new year. Manages the financial aspects to achieve the weekly budget, cost controls and profitability by controlling all production line item categories.
- Assists in developing and recommending incentive programs for the individual locations and contribute at a group or corporate level on similar initiatives as requested.
